The Diamond Wedding Ring: A Lasting Symbol of Love

You've probably heard the motto 'A diamond is forever.' While this might sound like a marketing catchphrase, it's actually the truth! Diamonds are the hardest gem in the world and also some of the very oldest. The youngest diamond is estimated to be millions of years old. Your diamond wedding ring will last a lot longer than you will! When it comes to selecting a piece of jewelry that you plan to wear for the rest of your life, some serious thought is in order.

The first ring that is selected is the diamond engagement ring. The engagement ring is presented by the hopeful groom-to-be to his beloved along with a proposal of marriage. If the proposal is accepted, the bride-to-be wears the ring on her left ring finger as a symbol of the engagement. There are many different kinds of diamond engagement rings. Some couples choose antique or heirloom rings, while others choose brand new ones. Most every engagement ring is a diamond solitaire, although the carat size and diamond shape varies widely from ring to ring. Engagement rings are normally set in yellow gold, white gold or platinum.

The wedding bands should match the engagement ring as far as the metal is concerned. Many couples choose bands that also feature diamonds. Even men are wearing wedding bands adorned with diamonds. The diamond is a sparkling symbol of eternal love and represents how special marriage is. Because most wedding bands only feature small diamonds or only a few of them, they're not as expensive as one might think. One alternative to the diamond adorned band that is popular for ladies is the eternity band which is a complete circle of diamonds.

When you go shopping for your diamond wedding ring, try on a variety of different rings to see which one you prefer. Taste in jewelry is a personal thing, and varies from person to person. The good news is that there are a wide variety of gorgeous choices offered in jewelry stores all over the globe. Be sure to ask the jeweler to explain the cut, clarity and carat weight of each ring you're considering to you. A diamond ring is big purchase, one that should be made only after an engaged couple has given the matter lots of careful consideration.
